Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) health

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐊𝐈𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐘𝐒 𝐄𝐅𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐘:
✅ See your doctor for regular check ups.
● Plan to see the kidney specialist. Most experts agree that you should see a kidney specialist, called a nephrologist, when your eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate - a measure of kidney function) is less than 30.
✅ Manage your DIABETES.

● Be more active. It's important to exercise daily and be physically active to manage your blood pressure and keep blood sugar levels in a healthy range.
● Check your blood glucose regularly.
When diagnosed early, it may be possible to stop diabetic kidney disease and fix the damage.

✅ Have a healthy BLOOD PRESSURE.

● Medicines that lower blood pressure can also significantly slow the progression of kidney disease. Two types of blood pressure-lowering medications, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), may be effective in slowing the progression of kidney disease.
✅ Family History - Kidney Disease.
● Like diabetes and hypertension, family history is a strong predictor of having heart disease in the general population. And, heart disease is a strong predictor of chronic kidney disease.
● Family history is one way physicians who treat families can look more closely for certain diseases.
✅ Take medications as prescribed.
● Medications help manage symptoms, manage blood sugar levels and blood pressure. Never skip them if prescribed by your doctor.
✅ STOP SMOKING.
𝘋𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸?
● Smoking can affect medicines used to treat high blood pressure. Uncontrolled or poorly controlled high blood pressure is a leading cause of kidney disease. Smoking slows the blood flow to important organs like the kidneys and can make kidney disease worse.
✅ Eat HEALTHY.
● Choose fresh or frozen vegetables instead of canned vegetables. If you do use canned vegetables, drain and rinse them to remove extra salt before cooking or eating them.
● Avoid processed meats like ham, bacon, sausage and lunch meats.
✅ Limit ALCOHOL.
● Alcohol causes changes in the function of the kidneys and makes them less able to filter the blood. ● Alcohol also affects the ability to regulate fluid and electrolytes in the body. When alcohol dehydrates (dries out) the body, the drying effect can affect the normal function of cells and organs, including the kidneys.
✅ Weight and kidney function.
● In turn, diabetes and high blood pressure are the two main causes of kidney disease.
● Being overweight can directly affect your kidneys, too. Extra weight forces the kidneys to work harder and filter wastes above the normal level.
● Over time, this extra work increases the risk for kidney disease.
✅ BE ACTIVE.
● People with chronic kidney disease can benefit from exercising regularly just like those without this condition. Your quality of health can improve if you engage in activities that strengthen the muscles, bones, and joints in your body.
What kind of exercise is good for kidney disease?
● Choose continuous activity such as walking, swimming, bicycling (indoors or out), skiing, aerobic dancing or any other activities in which you need to move large muscle groups continuously.
